She was a student with tunnel vision, a mission, and a plan to excel and succeed and that she did! At every rung of success, Khaliah quickly found a way to give back to her beloved community Newark, New Jersey. She never lost contact she never forgot where she came from. Khaliah’s first two years at Cornell University, she made it her business to return home during the Summers to a rewarding position as a camp counselor at KIPP’s TEAM Academy charter school in New Jersey. The KIPP School’s network taught Khaliah how to reach beyond her imagination.
Khaliah’s time at Cornell is nearly indescribable. It’s as if she was given five different proclamations, one for hope, another for determination, a third for goals, a fourth for cerebral and mental acumen, and a fifth for an assured future of community impact. Fast forward to Summer 2020, where her “main camp” is her Campaign for the Congressional seat on Capitol Hill. Big Red Bear alums and friends you may recall Khaliah’s illustrious time of study while on campus. Khaliah spent four years delving into studies within the Communications Department and has exited with a Communications and Science Degree. She has two minors one in Law and Society and the other in Development Sociology. Khaliah has also been a part of the Cornell Tradition Fellow scholarship program.
Post college, Khaliah Fitchette enjoyed exploring life and learning more outside of the classroom and spent two years living in California doing just that! Then, Khaliah stumbled upon a phenomenal opportunity to spend a year in Alaska and was fortunate to be invited to a program at the Denali National Park. There, she met some amazing individuals who will always be a part of her future and enjoyed activities such as fly fishing and hiking.
This institution has shaped an already beautiful mind to be what it is today. Khaliah’s time in studies at Cornell University was well spent as her campaign platform revolves greatly around those subject matters. Khaliah studied Philanthropy and Community Service day and night on campus and maintained a 3.0 average or better throughout her entire college career. I think the springboard for her political pursuits was her time as an intern for the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee, and with Family Law Judge Ann R. Bartlett. Her years as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity have also played a part in her political pursuits. So, this friends, is who “SHE” is. We present to you today, Ms. Khaliah Fitchette, Cornell University Class of 2016, Congressional candidate from New Jersey’s 10th District. Your proud Alum!
